From Lancaster online and the New Era Editorial Board

What a crock, the Lancaster New Era, (new era like indoor plumbing?) has canceled Ann Coulter's column over her use of the word Faggot this past week.

The Lancaster New Era has halted publication of Ann Coulter's syndicated column, following her crude characterization of presidential candidate John Edwards as a homosexual, at a public appearance on Friday. Coulter's use of name-calling, sarcasm and overstatement in her columns too often detracts from the arguments she seeks to make. Her writing leads her political opponents to respond with name-calling and vitriol.

If you actually listen to just the snippet, she never calls Edwards a faggot, she associates the word with him but doesn't call him homosexual. Her use of the word, was and always has been as a taunt of someone that is weak spined or in her words, "a wuss".

Additionally, if the editorial board had taken time to listen to the entire presentation she did, they would realize that she was taking jabs across the board at liberals at a conservative function.

My question to the editorial board is.....what was your coverage of John Kerry's "botched joke" comment on our troops? What about Kennedy's comments, or any of the other left leaning politicians that want to compare *** to our troops or Commander in Chief? Did your board step up then?

Ann Coulter is by no means soft spoken, but she will at least make you think and explore what you really stand for. Whether that is for what she believes or not. By simply pulling the plug, the board of the Lancaster New Era has taken a step backwards from horses and buggies. Watch out for the horse plops and slow traffic.

I sent the following to the New Era:

 You do realize that Ann Coulter did NOT call Edwards a faggot, right?  You did listen to the entire segement she did, right?  You do realize that she was making fun of the Actor that had to enter rehab for using that term, right?  No guess not.  Another reason not to buy newspapers.  I don't suppose you excoriated Kennedy or Kerry for their remarks against the President or the military?  No I guess not.  Don't worry, I'll be sure to add a comment about your lack of understanding and backbone to my blog.

And they wonder why people don't buy newspapers anymore?  Could it be toilet paper is cheaper?

I stand partially corrected.  I received an e-mail from the Editor of the Lancaster New Era this morning.  This e-mail was very much worth reading, and I am grateful for him taking the time to write it.

I will revisit their site and paper, and for the time being I will say that it appears that their paper is a step in the right direction.  My partial bad.

The fact remains though, as I pointed out to Mr Schreiber, in their paper's piece they stated that Ann Coulter made a "crude characterization of presidential candidate John Edwards as a homosexual".  This is incorrect, and it propagates the lie.  By pulling her column and saying that is the reason for pulling the column, Mr. Schreiber has done exactly what he states he was trying NOT to do, give the left something to ridicule conservatives over.  Hopefully the folks at New Era will see fit to at least post a correction to the initial piece.

The first comment above that displayed the wit and wisdom in a two word reply came from the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal staff.  

It seems that they are the "sister" paper of New Era, and it would also seem that the contact page on their website transmits to both papers.

Question:  If they are the sister paper, does that in some way have something to do with the mothership, and does their dress code stipulate something about new Nike's on Fridays?  Sure hope not.
