The three signs of the apocalypse, I agree with Senators Byrd, Collins and Specter!
The Senate voted 60 – 34 (Aside from the Ringling Bros. wagon failing to arrive from Michigan who was missing? Bond-MO, Brown-OH, Kennedy-MA, Wyden-OR and NY and MI remain vacant) to confirm Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary. You remember him, he didn’t pay his taxes when he worked at the IMF, even though they reimbursed him for the money he had said he paid, and that he used the popular tax software TurboTax to prepare his taxes which should have automatically calculated the self employment taxes.
Robert Byrd, whom I normally am 180 out with in the opinion market had this to say:
"Had he not been nominated for treasury secretary, it's doubtful that he would have ever paid these taxes," Byrd said in a statement.
Susan Collins of Maine and I also agree, that happens about as often as I enjoy a root canal:
"They were described by the nominee himself as 'careless mistakes,'" Collins said in prepared remarks. "It has become clear to me that this is not merely a matter of complexity leading to mistakes, but of inexcusable negligence."
I would add to that, even if it were complexity, this buffoon, Geithner not Collins, is now in charge of the flipping IRS, so it’s either inexcusable negligence, out and out fraud (most likely) or he doesn’t have a clue on the tax code but is now in charge of it. Great, I feel really good now. And this was the ONLY guy that could get us through this troubled time according to President Obama.
This is totally incomprehensible to me, as the article points out nominees have been basically run out of town on a rail for lesser things than this, and this guy is supposed to be Mr. Financial, and Mr. Taxes? What’s next, a recovering heroin addict to run the DEA?
The 60 who voted yes need pink slips in their mail boxes TOMORROW, then they can hope that Secretary Geithner has a magic wand.
