Let the rationing begin

Wednesday, November 18 2009 - UnderAware Blog

For months our fearless leaders have chided us, mocked us, called us names and looked down from upon high.  They know better than the general public, They can do something that has been tried a multitude of other times in other countries and in all cases it has failed.

Our elected Public SERVANTS, choose to take this country closer and closer to ruin, all the while saying they have the power to do the things they are doing, (which they don’t),

If you take the time to actually read Article 1 section 8 of the Constitution, add to that a further explanation of the elegant and simple text of Article 1 provided by Madison in Federalist Paper 41, I think you will see that clearly the Federal Government is overboard on many issues with regard to overstepping the boundaries outlined in their duties.

The founders knew that at some point we would have people such as we have now (and have had for decades), that would twist the words and misuse the powers in an effort to gain more power and remove the freedoms that were gained upon separation from the British Crown.

Every person, in any branch of service to the Federal Government is required to swear an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution, the sad fact is, like oaths, many don’t understand the Founding Documents of this Nation.

So back to my opening paragraph, for months we have been derided, and mocked.  There will be no rationing.  Lie.  Look at what came down from “A government task force” yesterday:

A government task force said Monday that most women don't need mammograms in their 40s and should get one every two years starting at 50 — a stunning reversal and a break with the American Cancer Society's long-standing position. What's more, the panel said breast self-exams do no good, and women shouldn't be taught to do them.

I’m sorry, in a discussion between government bureaucrats and the American Cancer Society regarding Breast Cancer, I know which organization I would trust more.  But look at this even further:

The new guidelines were issued by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, whose stance influences coverage of screening tests by Medicare and many insurance companies. But Susan Pisano, a spokeswoman for America's Health Insurance Plans, an industry group, said insurance coverage isn't likely to change because of the new guidelines.

Nice job MSNBC, a nice bit of slight of hand.  Let me remove the veil. “whose stance influences coverage of screening tests by Medicare and many insurance companies.”  i.e. at some point if this is allowed to stand, Medicare, (Medicaid, VA and even some private insurers) will stop covering the test.  You say, So?  I’m not in any of those plans and my insurance is just super.  I say, for now.

If health care is passed in even a fractional form of what currently is taking up a cubic foot or two on the desk of Nancy Pelosi, you will at some point be in something like Medicare, the Government Task Force will be dictating when tests should be done.

Maybe doing these tests in the 40 – 50 age range detects only a fraction of one percent of women with breast cancer, but we are going to change our guidelines based on costs?  Sorry that IS rationing.

I am appalled at the change in recommendations for breast cancer screening by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Early detection is the best thing we have in place today for fighting the disease -- it's not perfect but it's the best we've got.

Is is really acceptable to say that this will only increase the number of women who die from breast cancer by three percent? What if only one out of that 3% is someone you know and love (a sister, a daughter, an aunt, the mother of small children)? Three percent sounds like a small percentage -- but breast cancer affects so many women that that is not a small number.

A Mammogram Caught My Cancer When I Was 44

Yes it would be wonderful if we could all have the amazing healthcare that our SERVANTS have, forever, at limited or no cost to us.  It would be nice if I could play golf 12 hours a day 7 days/365.  At some point you have to look at what you have, and what you can do.  This recommendation, along with Nancy’s (like she really wrote it?) Health Care Paperweight, move starkly in the wrong direction.  It is as simple as the text of Article 1 Chapter 8 of the Constitution.
