It turns out that the feelings I had back in August, that firmed up in September, and have kept me believing all through October were right.
This team, is a true team in every sense of the word. They really have some superstar caliber personnel but this post season, and especially this World Series, was completely a team effort and for this fan, it was a complete joy to watch.
One note to the talking heads. If I hear one more comment about ratings my head is going to explode. The ratings might be down because of the teams involved, but that is only one part. Yes the Rays had trouble selling out their stadium through the season, and into the post season, but both they and the Phillies fielded very good teams this year. So for a true fan of the sport, this was a great World Series. The bias of the Fox crew, the production of the broadcast, rather than announcing the game, the little vignettes that had to be inserted rather than showing the gam, the lateness of the games so as to cater to TV, the blown calls of the apparent minor league umpires, and the major league screw up of the MLB Commish (who got a wonderful reception from the Philly Faithful). All of these things have nothing to do with the ratings?
I think I am so very happy for the entire team (maybe even Pat), but most of all I am happiest for Jamie Moyer, home grown, pitching and winning in the World Series, what it means to him as a person is totally apparent without him even speaking. Well Done Phillies, Well Done Jamie Moyer. Warm up the trucks, someone call the Mummers, Get the shredders running overtime, we have a parade to go to tomorrow!
