Illinois senators vote to oust Blagojevich from office

No grey area in this one, 59-0.

Blago tried hard, maybe his hardest.  At the outset of the trial he immediately flew off to New York to testify before…..the TV audience?

I’m sorry, if you as a public official are being called out, as a public servant you better get your butt front and center and face the music. Not taking an oath, not answering questions, weak, very weak.  A very strange bird this one but he is good for a good quote or two:

He says he "loves the people of Illinois" more than ever, and he intends to keep fighting to clear his name. And he says he isn't looking for any pity.

Ah, yeah, so what was the tv blitz about if not looking for pity.  Oh, and the fighting to clear your name thing Blago, do a better job than OJ looking for his ex-wife’s murderer, or John Kerry proving that the Swift Boat Veterans were lying.

He argued, again, that he did nothing wrong, and warned that his impeachment would set a "dangerous and chilling precedent."

Re: a “dangerous and chilling precedent.”  We can only hope so.

"You haven't proved a crime, and you can't because it didn't happen," Blagojevich told the lawmakers. "How can you throw a governor out of office with insufficient and incomplete evidence?"

Oh that’s easy, they were shown intent and that was sufficient enough for all 59 of them to tell you to go home, don’t worry Blago, the crime prosecution part is coming (I hope) and that should be even more entertaining.

The thing in all of this that I find really amazing, it was well known that he was under investigation, some of his pals had already been busted:

The verdict capped a head-spinning string of developments that began less than two months ago. It was widely known that federal prosecutors had been investigating Blagojevich's administration for years - some of his closest cronies have already been convicted - but his Dec. 9 arrest by the FBI caught nearly everyone off guard.

So hopefully the shovels are not put away and the digging will continue, because I’m sure this spreads even farther than this.

He acknowledged the truth about his conduct is "maybe not flattering in some cases," referring to the secretly recorded conversations. But he said the tapes captured something that "all of us in politics do in order to run campaigns and win elections."

Really? If that’s true, then all of them in politics need to resign or be impeached.

In the end, he left the Capitol in Springfield through a secret basement corridor full of grunting, clanking pipes, bare walls and puddles.
